UN system in Bangladesh commemorated the 60th Anniversary of the UN through a high-profile programme on the UN Day - 24 October 2005. The event, organised in 5-star hotel, was attended by the President of Bangladesh Professor Dr Iajuddin Ahemd as Chief Guest and the Foreign Minister of the Government of Bangladesh Mr M Morshed Khan as special guest. Presided over by the UN Resident Coordinator the programme was attended by Heads of UN Agencies, Govt Officials, Civil Society members, NGO representatives, Media and UN Staff members. UNIC Dhaka played the sole role of coordinator in organizing the event. Away in Chittagong, a divisional headquarters, the Centre jointly with Nippon Academy - a DPI affiliated organization - organized a roundtable session to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the UN. A quiz competition on UN themes was conducted among a number of educational institutions and winners were awarded prizes
