| Objectives of the UN Library Network: |
| The prime objective of the network is to disseminate and share UN information resources among different libraries, government and non-government organizations, training institutes and academies and exchanging of network organizations' publications among the member libraries. The libraries of the participating organizations would work as the focal points of the network. Details of the objectives are: |
| 1. To disseminate UN resources – books, documents, reports, audiovisual materials etc. among the libraries of network member organizations; |
| 2. To share UN resources available at UNIC through bibliography and internet services and also to share the resources of member organizations; |
| 3. To establish an inter-library publication exchange/loan programme among the members; |
Representatives of twenty major libraries of the city are seen attending the first meeting of UN L-Net BD on 19 March2002 at the UNIC meeting Room. The Centre OIC presided over the meeting & The Center Reference Librarian was selected as the Member Secretary of the Network. |
| 4. To make the training institute or academy a focal point for distributing the UN publications among their trainees; |
| 5. To make UNIC library a clearinghouse for distributing selective information materials produced by different UN agencies based in Dhaka; |
| 6. To share the feedback of locally produced Bangla publications and discuss the further needs; |
| 7. To organize network meetings on a regular basis. |
| A working committee was formed to run the network activities smoothly with the UNIC Reference Librarian as Member,Secretary. The first working committee meeting was held on 21 April 2002. It was agreed that UNIC library, as a focal point and secretariat of the network, would coordinate to distribute local UN agencies information materials electronically and in printed form. The information materials of member organizations will also be shared among the member libraries. UNIC website will be a tool to focus the members profile, contact person and address of the member organizations. Names of the working committee members are given below : |
